Over the last month or so, there has been some online chatter about wearing the same outfit every day vs wearing whatever you like.

Some people prefer not to have to make the “what am I going to wear” decision every morning…others like the daily selection of outfits, and the fun of a fully stocked wardrobe!

But apparently, if you have a lot of clothes, and you are having to decide what to wear every day, you are at risk of developing mental fatigue!

By wearing the same outfit or “uniform” each day, it takes less time to get ready and there is one less thing to stress about in our already overloaded lives.

Strangely enough, this view seems somewhat gender divided..the internet is full of “successful” people, or should I say, men…who have their own signature “uniform” that they wear every day…Steve Jobs, Barack Obama, Mark Zuckerberg…and they report that it frees their minds for more important decisions.

It seems women can’t get away with wearing the same look daily, unless their job requires a set uniform…if they do, their colleagues etc wonder what has happened.

But I digress…the point of this post is to discuss whether wearing a “uniform”, self created or enforced…is a genius idea which would make our lives easier, or is it just a way of crushing creativity.

Which side am I on?

It will come as no surprise to my regular readers that I would hate wearing the same outfit daily…I much prefer variety and spontaneity!

I think it stems from the fact I wore a uniform every day of my school life…a tunic for winter, and a dress for summer.

As soon as I finished school, I loved the fact that I could wear whatever I want.

Sadly though, my fashion sense was somewhat bland, and I admit I did struggle with the “what to wear” dilemma.

Now I am in my forties, things are very different due to three things…my tastes have changed, I worked out what suits my figure and I discovered vintage!

I actually love waking up in the morning and deciding what to wear…actually to be honest, I often plan my outfit while lying in bed the night before…which reminds me that I really must start getting my outfits into the virtual wardrobe app, Dressed

Maybe life would be a little less stressful if I wore the same thing, but I like some unpredictability.

Dressing differently each day allows me to dress to suit my mood, or to cater for whatever it is I am going to do…and I can change my mind if I want to.

For example, if I am needing a confidence boost, I will chose an outfit that makes me feel like I can take on the world!

Some days need colour..lots of it!

Some days even need a touch of glamour because…well…why not?!

Vintage-dress

I guess this does mean I am putting myself on display, especially as I post daily outfit images on my Instagram feed…not exactly a fading flower, am I?

And it also means I am quite materialistic, and love the thrill of a gorgeous vintage find!

Yes, I might make some fashion faux pas…hell, I have made heaps of the years and survived!

I love the challenge of mixing, matching and accessorising, especially across eras.

So although wearing a set “uniform” would save me money, and could very well improve my productivity and reduce any stress, I am going to stick to my wardrobe adventure each day!

I am happy developing my own unique trademark look…colourful yet stylish, and never boring!

If you could get away with wearing the same outfit every day, would you do it?

Or are you more like me, and prefer to have the freedom of choice?
