I had a number of posts to get ready for today and the week ahead, but for the first time in ages, I have been knocked flat by food disagreeing with me.
I am severely lactose intolerant, and regularly suffer nausea and other internal issues despite a strict diet…usually I fight through it…but not this time…
Today, we decided to try a well known vegan restaurant, which should have caused no issues…but it seems there is more then lactose I am intolerant of.
Within fifteen minutes of drinking a smoothie and having a small chia pudding, I began to feel violently ill, with a nightmare trip home.
I think this was the culprit…can’t look at it without feeling sick, but tasted delicious at the time though…
Hours later, I am still feeling less then average…this is the worst reaction I have had in years.
I have suspicion there is something in some brands of coconut milk which I can’t handle, so my confidence in eating…and drinking vegan when out may have to be rethought…and I have to return to being ultra careful.
I will stick to tea or a plain old drink of water!
Oh how I wish I could return to being able to eat anything without the threat of almost instant gastro…I envy those with who have no food intolerances or allergies.
I know it won’t kill me, but boy, it makes me very, very sick.
So today I had a very big reminder not to be too complacent…a lovely day ruined by my body deciding something was poison and acting accordingly.
I now have to wait while it gets out of my system…no dinner for me…instead ginger tablets and peppermint tea.
Normal transmission to resume tomorrow…hopefully!
Do you suffer from food intolerances or allergies? How do you cope when eating out?

The berries?? Hope by the time you read this you re back on track. Take care Sarah.

Thanks Caz! I think it was the coconut milk/cream they used. There is something in it that disagrees with me big time!

Poor you Sarah, that is the worst! Have you tried Melissa (lemonbalm) tea also? I find it excellent for immediately calming down these reactions and a lovely flavour too.
Sarah
Thanks Amy! I haven’t heard of that tea – will give it a try!
