This week, there will be a break from My Friday Five because there is something different about this particular Friday…
Today, we get a double whammy….it’s Friday the 13th AND it is a full moon!
In other words, a bad luck day combined with a feared number…
This is the first time in over a decade that the two have coincided…in fact its been 14 years…and it will be another 35 years before it happens again…in 2049!
But the bad news about having a full moon on Friday the 13th is that apparently it means double the bad luck…
When there is a full moon, emergency rooms are reported to overflow and crime rates supposedly increase.
Tie that in with the belief that Friday the 13th is considered unlucky…black cats could go crazy…werewolves will roam the streets…bats in the belfry…
Potentially, we could be in for a crazy day/night!
I discovered that there is actual words for phobias about these two events…..
Paraskevidekatriaphobia or Friggatriskaidekaphobia…have no idea how to say either of those…..is the fear of Friday the 13th!
I use to work with someone who had this…he stressed about Friday the 13th as he was highly superstitious…wouldn’t walk under ladders, avoided black cats, wouldn’t get out of bed till the minutes clicked past 13….if he could avoid being at work that day, he would.
Hate to think how he would cope on a day like today!
Selenophobia is the fear of the moon and when the moon at its fullest, sufferers of this phobia want to stay inside.
Me…well the number 13 is actually a lucky number in our family…we all choose 13 whenever possible….so I have no fear of it.
If it is a clear night….which I don’t think is forecast….the full moon presents an opportunity to test my photography skills….
And yes, the two photos on this page are mine…I love taking photos of the moon!
So today should be life as usual in our house!
How about you?
What are your superstitions? Will you be hiding out for the day?

Maybe it’ll be extra lucky for you! and gorgeous photos, wow!

no superstitions here. A friend’s family member would never fly on a plane of 13th. Many years ago he changed a flight in US because of this – the flight on the 13th crashed with no survivors. Lucky he was superstitious.
Excellent photo’s – hope you get the chance to take some more tonight.

Aaahh .. No wonder everything went wrong today! Chances are I probably won’t be around for the next time this double whammy event happens. Not such a bad thing. Great photos Sarah.
Pinky Poinker
Great photos! There was a huge solar flare on Friday as well you know. It knocked out air traffic radars in Europe.

I was waiting for something amazing to happen – but basically we all just stayed up a bit later than usual, went to bed, and slept in. Pretty cool really.

I have to admit I was very very careful on Friday… I am over the top superstitious courtesy of my family genes. We are a line of nutjobs when it comes to superstitions xx

These moon photos are amazing Sarah, and 13 is a lucky number for me too x
